Palmer Residence Plans- 2B, HB, H Lead on 11x17 Vellum Paper *LOGO CHANGED*
This project was a semester-long residential project in which we were to remodel a one-bedroom apartment for the Palmer family. The Palmers wished to open the small kitchen to the living area to create a more open-plan environment. All existing appliances were to be reused, but the cabinetry would be replaced. In addition, the study is to become a second bedroom with a closet. All of the doors and windows will be replaced, but the windows are to remain the same size.
To begin, a demolition plan was made to show what would be removed. In the demolition plan, the doors and windows are being replaced as noted, along with the cabinetry in the kitchen. To open up the kitchen to the living area, I removed the existing wall facing the living area. Also, the wall dividing the kitchen and laundry area was to be removed as well.
For the revised floor plan, the kitchen was shown opened up to the living area, with the washer and dryer moved into the sunroom. I also added an island in the center of the kitchen for space to prepare for cooking. The previous study space was transitioned into a second bedroom with a closet. Also, furniture was added such as a dining table in the dining room, a sectional, arm chair, and area rug in the living room, and two chairs on the balcony. In the bedrooms, a nightstand and beds were placed. Lastly, symbols were made for the windows and doors, and for new walls. The elevation symbols were later added after finishing the elevation plan.
After finishing the floor plan, a reflected ceiling plan was made. This plan included all of the light fixtures that were going to be used throughout the house. Some of the light fixtures included 13" and 10" warm pendent lighting, 12" outdoor flush mount lighting, 4" and 6" recessed fluorscent lighting, and a 20" and 17" chandelier. Also shown on the plan was all of the switches such as a 3-way switch, 3-way dimmer switch, and 4-way switch. Bathroom fans and smoke detectors were included as well. In each of the rooms, the ceiling heights are noted (A.F.F). I also wanted to add beams in the kitchen and living room area, in which were drawn out on the plan as well.
To show what the kitchen area was going to look like, a elevation plan was made. The elevation plan included all of the cabinetry and appliances, along with tile for the backsplash. Each of the elevations included labels of what materials were used such as sold white wood cabinetry, black and white wall tile, and black quartz countertops. The dimensions were shown to show the height and length of the elevations. Lastly, symbols were created to show the elevation number and scale which was placed on the floor plan with arrows.
Once the elevation plan was completed, a sections and details plan was created. In this plan, it included sections of the base and upper cabinets, along with details such as the faux beams and flat moulding. Each of the sections and details included labeling of what material was included.
Lastly, the schedules plan was created. This plan showed all of the types of doors and windows used in the floor plan. Each of the doors and windows included dimensions.
To finish this project, a cover sheet was made to display the drawing contents, team members, project information, and abbreviations and reference symbols used. A map of the location was also included to show what street it was located on.
Wall Detail

Wall Section Drawing- 2B, H Lead on 11x17 Vellum Paper
For this assignment, we were to recreate a detail drawing from the James Hardie Company that shows the ground clearances for a rainscreen wall. The drawing was to be at a 3"=1'-0" scale, and assume that the interior studs are 2x6's. This assignment was to show our ability to create appropriate labels and hatching for the basic construction of a wall detail. This wall detail included the moisture barrier, wood framing, interior/exterior sheathing, masonry footing, etc. One thing I enjoyed from this assignment is learning all of the building components and what all goes into building a wall. This was a rather fun assignment for we got the chance to test our skills with lineweights and lettering.
Stair Section

Stair Section Drawing- 2B, H, HB Lead on 11x17 Vellum Paper
For this assignment, we were to recreate the stair section that was provided, including all labels. The purpose of this assignment was to gain a better understanding of how a staircase is built. Some parameters of the assignment was to create the section at a 1/2" scale, all lettering was to be 1/8" high, and use three different lead types to create depth. This assignment was very complex due to the different lineweights used and the scale of each detail. In the image, it shows a staircase with the stair section. Labels are included as well as dimensions. After completing this assignment, I was able to apply my skills of lettering and use of lineweights, as well as applying the correct scale.

ADA Restroom: Created on 11x17 Vellum
For this assignment, our goal was to design a men's and women's restroom, in which each are to be no more than 12'-10" x 20'. The women's restroom will have three toilet stalls, in which one will be ADA, two sinks, and a baby changing station. The men's restroom will have two urinals and a toilet, all of which are ADA compliant, along with two sinks and a baby changing station. The restroom will have a vestibule, or be arranged in such a manner that provides visual privacy from the corridor. The two restrooms will be adjacent to one another, and walls are to be 5" thick. Partitions are to be drawn 1" thick. The toilets are to be wall mounted and the urinals can be wall mounted or stall type. The sinks can be wall mounted, drop in, or under counter mounted. Along with the restroom plan, an elevation was drawn of the primary wet wall of our choice. Both of the drawings were to be drawn at a 1/2" scale.
Lettering Assignment

Lettering Assignment: Created on 11x17 Vellum
For this assignment, the goal was to practice our lettering skills by writing out the alphabet, numbers, and our favorite bible verse. The first set of lettering grouping was written at 1/4" scale high, and the last set of lettering grouping was written at a 1/8" scale high. In between each line, there was a space 1/8" apart. For this assignment, an HB lead was used. Practicing lettering was useful when we began our semester long architectural project because there was a lot of lettering used throughout. What was so fun about this proiect is figuring out what style of lettering you wanted to create for yourself because the design is up to you!
